A UK Labour government will save £300 off the average energy bills for families in Dunfermline & Dollar while bringing good jobs to the local community, the Scottish Labour candidate for the area said today.
Graeme Downie said Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan shows what could be delivered locally just as the SNP-Green government in Edinburgh is watering down its climate targets and defending the profits of oil and gas giants.
Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan is the party’s landmark plan to grow Britain’s economy, cut energy bills once and for all, and make Britain energy independent.
This policy shows Scotland is essential to making Britain a clean energy superpower by:
- Tackling the cost of living crisis by saving families up to £300 off their average annual energy bills.
- Delivering over 50,00 clean power jobs in Scotland.
- Creating Great British Energy, headquartered in Scotland, to invest in making Scotland Britain’s energy capital. Great British Energy will invest in clean power like floating offshore wind and green hydrogen, as well as build over a thousand local power projects.
- A Warm Homes Plan to help upgrade hundreds of thousands of homes in Scotland.
Commenting on how Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan will benefit Dunfermline & Dollar, candidate Graeme Downie said:
“Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan is about tackling the climate crisis while cutting bills for families and investing in good jobs in Dunfermline & Dollar.”
“With the SNP opposing a proper windfall tax on oil and gas companies and, along with their coalition partners the Scottish Greens, rolling back on its climate commitments, it is clear the Labour Party is the only hope we have to tackle climate change.”
“There are so many opportunities for our area to lead on green prosperity, from the site of the former Longannet Generating Station and the cluster of hi-tech companies in Rosyth to the culture, history, skills and business community in the new City of Dunfermline which make it ripe for investment and growth.”
Labour’s plan will include investments to drive local and economic growth, with a National Wealth Fund will help to create up to half a million jobs in Britain’s industrial heartlands, giving opportunities to plumbers, electricians, welders, and workers in every single nation and region of the country.
This historic investment in working people and their communities is the only way out of the high energy bills, energy insecurity, and the doom-loop of low growth, high taxes and crumbling public services under Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives.
A large part of that investment will be paid for by a proper windfall tax on oil and gas giants, so those who have profited from energy insecurity pay for the investment needed to rebuild industry, lower bills and make sure we are never at the mercy of dictators like Putin again.
