Councillor urges vans and trucks to slow down at “notorious” Kincardine traffic lights

A West Fife Councillor has written to companies whose vehicles have been spotted speeding through a dangerous set of traffic lights in Kincardine, urging their drivers to be more careful.

The traffic lights and junction at North Road / Feregait /  Toll Road in Kincardine is set to be redesigned as part of the regeneration of Kincardine High Street but Cllr. Downie believes companies have a responsibility to have their drivers slowdown in the meantime.

Constituents highlighted concerns over the traffic lights during recent surgeries and Community Council meetings in the village, prompting to Cllr. Downie to write to companies such as Openreach and Diageo urging them to get their drivers to slow down when approaching the junction.

Cllr. Downie said he had already received a positive response from Openreach who have briefed local engineering teams, reminding them of the importance to driving safety and reducing their speed.  Diageo have also said they will look in to the issue in more detail with their contractors who go through the village on their way to and from their site in Alloa.

Cllr. Downie is urging local people to get in touch with him to highlight other companies speeding at the junction so he can contact them as well.

Commenting on the issue, Cllr. Downie, said:

“The traffic lights at North Road / Toll Road are a serious safety concern for people in Kincardine.  There have been collisions at the junction between cars, vans and HGVs as well as near-misses with pedestrians.”

“It is right the lights and junction are being redesigned to make them safer but that will take time and it is important companies with vehicles who have come through Kincardine make sure their drivers are driving responsibly.  Where possible I would urge companies to avoid using the village as a through route at all.”

“I want to thank both Openreach and Diageo for their positive response and the constructive way they have deal with my requests which I hope will see some improvements.  I would ask people to get in touch and let me know of other poor driving in the area and I will follow-up with those companies as well.”
